Facts About Me

If you’re interested in how I got to this point in my writing career, I suggest you check out my Writing Background page. Although I spend much of my time outside of my full-time job writing, I DO have other interests! Here are some additional facts about me:

  • I’m originally from the Kansas City area, but I haven’t lived there for quite a while. I’ve lived in a total of five different states (in chronological order): Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

  • I’ve now lived in the Madison, Wisconsin area for over 15 years. This now represents the place that I’ve lived the longest in my life.

  • I’ve grown up in the church and have followed Jesus as long as I can remember. I’m currently a member of a non-denominational church in Madison, called High Point Church.

  • In the summer of 2016, I started dating my future wife (though she asked me out first, a fact that she will never let me forget!). We met at church and were married in the summer of 2018.

  • After being gone for around 30 years, my parents finally moved back to the Kansas City area, settling in a small community south of Kansas City on the Kansas side.

  • I have one sibling, a younger sister. She is an optometrist, and she also moved back to the Kansas City area a few years ago.

  • I follow quite a few sports. Above all, I am a HUGE Kansas City Royals fan. I’ve been a fan since I was young, but I’m not quite old enough to remember when they won the World Series in 1985.  Thankfully, I was very much alive when they won the World Series again in 2015!

  • As you can guess, I’m also a big Kansas City Chiefs fan, and even though it may have taken them 50 years to reach another Super Bowl (after winning Super Bowl IV in 1970), I was thrilled to watch them win Super Bowl LIV in 2020!

  • It’s not unusual for me to stand out in a crowd. That’s because I’m 6’6” tall!

  • I play a few sports from time to time, including basketball, volleyball, tennis, and golf. However, I spend more time running than any other sport. The longest run that I’ve completed is a half-marathon in both 2013 and 2015.

  • In early 2019, my wife and I adopted an eight-month old puppy from the local humane society. Her name is Luna (named after a character from the Harry Potter series), and she’s a border collie/hound/shepherd mix, and she’s got quite the personality!

  • One of my other hobbies is coin collecting. I first started collecting coins early in high school, although I don’t spend as much time or money in that hobby as I used to.

  • I tend to watch television and movies more than I spend reading these days. I’m especially drawn to good story-telling in any form of media, especially if it is Sci-Fi related.
